G. Lucid Nut Brown Ale to Be Officially Released at Smugglers on 6/19/2013

Telluride Mushroom Festival, The Telluride Institute, and Smugglers Brewery are proud to present the official release of their Myco-Infused Beer, the G. Lucid Nut Brown Ale on Wednesday the 19th of June, 2013. This health-stimulating, handcrafted beer infusion is a toasted walnut brown ale, with roasted malted grains, “dry-hopped” with Reishi fruiting bodies, and infused with immune enhancing medicinal mushrooms.

The G. Lucid Nut Brown Ale represents Telluride Mushroom Festival’s 2nd annual partnership with Telluride’s Smuggler’s Brewery and Mushroom Mountain out of Liberty, SC. Last year’s myco-infused beer was so popular, it sold out before the festival ended. This year, Smuggler’s brewery is adding the delicious immune boosting beer to the menu year-round. G lucid Nut Brown Ale will be on tap beginning Monday, June 17th, with an official release on Wednesday the 19th. Each beer is $5 and contains one supplemental dose of Reishi tincture. A portion of beer sales will be donated to the Telluride Mushroom Festival.

For 32 years, the Telluride Mushroom Festival has offered a forum for intellectual exploration of the role mushrooms play on Earth. Telluride Mushroom Festival has become America’s most respected celebration of all things mycological. For more information on Smugglers Brewery please visit www.smugglersbrewpub.com.

Lawrence Millman
Depending on the circumstance, I wear the hat of a mycologist, an Arctic explorer, an ethnographer, and a travel writer. I’m a Fellow of the prestigious Explorers Club; recipient of Guggenheim, Fulbright, Pearlman, and Northern Lights Awards; and hold a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. As a mycologist, I’ve studied and/or inventoried fungi in places as diverse as Western Samoa, Iceland, Honduras, Alaska, Costa Rica, Arctic Canada, Belize, and Fresh Pond in Cambridge, Massachusetts. My inventory for Wachusetts Meadow Wildlife Sanctuary in Princeton, Massachusetts, now has more than 525 species. Likewise, I’ve done ethnomycological work with the Chukchi in Siberia and with the Inuit in the Canadian Arctic. I don’t own a car, and I keep a post office box in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Published work: I’ve written 16 books, including such titles as Last Places, An Evening Among Headhunters, Lost in the Arctic, Our Like Will Not Be There Again, and — most recently — Hiking to Siberia. My writing has appeared in such publications as Smithsonian, National Geographic, Outside, Atlantic Monthly, and (not least) Fungi.

I have been growing mushrooms with low-tech, permaculturally-based methods in Cascadia for the last six years. I have worked with a few non-profits, mushroom clubs/collectives, intentional communities and many individuals. The low-tech, easily transferrable (Hands-on) methods are what I know about best. The workshops, skill-shares I have attended and hosted, books read and trials and errors made with mushroom cultivation in the last few years have revealed simple applications, i.e. conservation land steward practices of these and other forms of alternative food/medicine production that can improve anyone’s physical, spiritual and emotional health.

A personal or business donation to the Telluride Mushroom Festival is a great way to help fund year-round educational programming and outreach in Telluride and beyond. We are currently offering outreach at middle and high schools, colleges and universities, mycological societies, national events, and governmental institutions.

Your donation to Telluride Mushroom Festival is tax-deductible and paves the way for educational offerings, scholarships for students, and helps start myco-projects in communities around the world.
