Prepping for Shroomfest at Cloud Acre

Prepping for Shroomfest

At Cloud Acre

-for Ty Allchin

Got back this late July weekend

Mowed the fallow field weeds

Have yet to mound the spuds

though watering daily, or was

Not sure I can promise

a rainbow for our parade

But home from the gathering

the boy and I appear to be

rained out of an early

morning climb of Sheep

Mountain big brother Rio

& I had planned for months

& first reports from the San Juans

say some chanterelles already

& maybe a few boletes

(Leccinum, for sure)

Weather Report: Monsoons are a little early and it’s looking great!

We’re getting a bunch of emails from people asking what the weather is looking like and if Telluride is getting the rain needed for an excellent shroom season.  We moved the festival up by a week this year and it’s starting to look like a picture perfect scenario!

July normally see’s about two inches of rain and we’re at one and three quarters with almost two weeks of rain still in the forecast. And the temps are just right, within the next three weeks we’ll start to see fruiting and the shrooms are gonna be just ripe and ready to pick by the middle of august!

So keep checking the weather and we’ll see you for another amazing Shroomfest!

Speaker Spotlight: MAPS Deputy Director Valerie Mojeiko

Shroomers were so impressed with Valerie and all the great work MAPS is doing that we decided to invite them back! She’s worked with MAPS since 2001 working on a range of projects from clinical trials administration for pharmaceutical drug development to leading MAPS’ psychedelic harm–reduction project, where she’s prepared over 200 volunteers to provide peer–based psychedelic emergency services from Burning Man to Tel Aviv.

For those that missed last year here’s what MAPS is:

Founded in 1986, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organization. MAPS functions as a non-profit pharmaceutical company working to make psychedelics–such as psilocybin, LSD, and MDMA–and medical marijuana available to patients, physicians, and therapists on a legal, prescription, generic basis for public health benefits and health care cost savings. MAPS helps scientists fund, design, and conduct clinical trials under the guidelines set forth by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMEA), the International Council on Harmonization (ICH), and other government regulatory bodies. MAPS is also training therapists to administer psychedelic drugs in therapeutic settings. MAPS educates the public honestly about the risks and benefits of psychedelics and marijuana by organizing and co-sponsoring conferences, distributing books and other merchandise, distributing a triannual Bulletin, producing a monthly e-mail newsletter, distributing knowledge about psychedelic harm reduction, hosting educational and fundraising booths at festivals and community events, and providing access to world-renowned experts in psychedelic and medical marijuana research.

Curious about the mushroom in your yard, check out urbanmushrooms.com

Shroomfest founder Manny Salzman, along with festival regulars Linnea Gillman, Jason Salzman (former president of the Colorado Mycological Society) and several other equally amazing people have created a great new mushroom site for the urban explorer.

Urbanmushrooms.com has a wealth of information from identifying that strange mushroom in your garden and cooking it to shopping advice & information about poisonous mushrooms you may encounter while in the urban fungal jungle.

Also, those attending the festival will be pleased to know that The Salzmans, Larry Evans, Telluride’s John Sir Jesse and many other experienced mushroom hunters will be on hand leading the daily forays up into the San Juan Mountains,

Here’s a video of Jason talking about edible urban mushrooms from last years festival titled From the Backyard to the Frying Pan: City Mushrooms

Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin: Help Preserve The Work Of A National Treasure

For many years Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin has been a great friend of the festival’s and we would like to help spread the word about two very important projects regarding one of the fathers of modern Psychopharmacology.

The Shulgin Legacy Project is a new initiative of the Alexander Shulgin Research Institute, created to Facilitate and encourage ongoing study and research into psychoactive compounds and visionary plants. Acting as a resource for chemists, therapists, toxicologists, etc.

The other of the Legacy Project is to maintain the Shulgin Farm and transform it into a permanent facility that can serve as a conference center, psychedelic library (to provide unrestricted access to valuable research), and expand the collection of species in the ethnobotanical garden.

The other project that’s been brought to our attention is an album celebrating the Sasha’s life and contributions.

Press release:

L.A.B. Tracks: A Benefit Compilation for Sasha Shulgin Digital Album

Immediate download of 27-track album in your choice of 320k mp3,FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire.

100% OF THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS ALBUM GO DIRECTLY TO THE SHULGINS’ ONGOING MEDICAL COSTS!

At the age of 85, Sasha recently suffered a stroke and now requires full-time medical care. This benefit compilation is the response from an
international network of musicians whose work and lives have been enriched and inspired by the work of these two pioneers and their
courageous exploration of nonordinary consciousness.

The L.A.B., or “Large Animal Bioassay,” was the pet name given to visionary chemist Sasha Shulgin’s small group of friend-volunteers who
spent years exploring the effects of his newly-discovered molecules on their consciousness. This heroic team of psychonauts were the first to experience hundreds of novel states of consciousness, and it is in their honor that we name this compilation of eclectic tracks.
